Trades & Crafting - Overview

The trade skill system in TSS is different than others you may have encountered. We sympathize with people who want to play in a game where they can make things, sing to others, tend shop, etc., without spending the majority of their time hunting. That's not possible with most other games available at this time.

TSS supports the role player AS WELL AS the person who has an affinity for killing 'critters' and monsters. You can enjoy TSS and gain levels without ever having to whollop on a critter, if that's your choice. Trade skills are a necessary part of TSS.

While there are NPC merchants and repair shops that can assist players with their needs, nothing compares to the quality and versatility of player made items. Player made items are the only items able to be enchanted to have special magical properties by Enchanters.

Many player made items will possess special properties from the skill of the person making them. Items WILL be damaged and need to be fixed. A player trade person is the best choice for this.

Beside the obvious quality gain that players get by using player made items, they also have a visual bonus. Trade people make custom items by using templates. This is not to say they can make anything you want, but with templates, stencils, patterns and other tools, trade people have a variety of different visual effects they can apply to items.

As you will see by reading about the various trade skills, we have done our best to make trade people as necessary as possible to the game. Our experience system is designed so that you will be able to spend your entire character's life doing nothing but baking cookies or making armor and still get to level 100, if that is what you wish to do. You never have to touch a weapon.

In order to be a trade person, you must choose the 'commoner' class at character creation. This will allow you to choose any of the trade professions or combinations of them. Just remember, anytime that you 'dual class', even in trade professions, you are sacrificing some of your potential skills. Try to stick to one thing, but if you want to dual class, by all means, enjoy.
