Religion of Xaltoria

At one time, there was only one known god, Xaltion. That all changed when the Nameless One was struck down and killed by Xaltion, and a terrible imbalance was created in the world. This imbalance very nearly caused the total destruction of the planet, but this was avoided narrowly by Xaltion.

What did end was the way of life, as it had been known for thousands of years. The planet may not have been destroyed, but the result was an almost entirely different world. Those who survived the Rending, as this time came to be known, would find themselves faced with a new world and a new religion as well. Where there was only one god, there were now ten.

While the survivors didn't understand what had happened, they understood Xaltion was still there, but somehow, someway, so were nine new deities. It took the scholars as well as Holy men and women many years to finally put together that these new deities were actually different aspects of Xaltion.

To save the world, Xaltion had to create balance. The balance that both life and the planets depended upon was almost completely destroyed when Xaltion struck down the Nameless God. (See Age of Rending on The History for more information.) A new balance had to be created, so Xaltion split himself into different Aspects of his personality.

These new beings brought a balance the world needed, but at a great price to Xaltion. Xaltion is no longer whole. He is a shattered god trying to put together a shattered world, all for the love of his creations.

Xaltion and the other Aspects depend upon their worshipers to increase their strength. Previously Xaltion had no need for worship; he simply enjoyed it. Now there is a need. The gods thrive and grow stronger from the faith and devotion placed in them by the population of Xaltoria. This has lead to many more changes in the way of life. Aspects now offer great rewards to people for their devotion. They have even gone so far as to bring life back to the dead.

It is a fine line the Aspects play with balance and the cycle of life. Will it ultimately destroy the world? Which Aspect will prove to be the most powerful? What kind of enticements will they come up with next to draw worshipers to themselves?
